School Council

The school is registered as an Independent non-government school and is governed by a School Council.

The School Council is an Incorporated body with its members representing the language groups taught at Yipirinya.

The School Council consists of two representatives from each of the language groups taught (Warlpiri, Central Arrernte, Western Aranda and Luritja). Members are Aboriginal and are parents or carers of children at the School.

The 2023 council members are strong community leaders with long term ties to the school with some being previous students and family of founding members.

The Council’s Objectives

promote the development of educational programs;
foster community;
ensure that all educational programs provided are in accordance with the Aboriginal tradition of the members;
promote the School's two-way bilingual and bi-cultural model of education;
assist the development and training programs of Aboriginal persons designed to enable them to fully participate in the education of Aboriginal; and
act to improve the living conditions and meet the needs of Aboriginal children and their families in any way which will assist them to benefit from educational programs.
