Rusted Gems

In 2022 Yipirinya School participated in Rusted Gems – a collaborative project between Congress Redtails Pinktails Right Tracks Program and Red CentreNATS where students restore and enter a car in the Red CentreNATS.

The Alice Springs Town Council donated a VE Commodore and five secondary students project managed the restoration, developing many skills throughout the project. The car took part in the street parade and was on display at the Welcome to Country and ended up winning the Judges Choice Award.

The Rusted Gems program works closely with Charles Darwin University so students can also gain qualifications leading to future employment opportunities. We’re looking forward to the 2023 Red CentreNATS!
