Curriculum

The School has a two-way, bilingual and bi-cultural approach to education.

The School teaches 4 Indigenous languages (Central and Western Arrernte, Luritja and Warlpiri). The students chose one of these languages and attend one language and culture lesson each day. They learn to read and write in the language of their choice. In addition each language group has a cultural excursion each term where the students travel to a local area and learn about their culture and land from Indigenous elders.

The School also follows the Northern Territory Curriculum Framework, concentrating on the basics of literacy and numeracy, but also including Science, Social Studies, Health and Physical Education, Art and Music.

As all the students are learning English as a second or foreign language their literacy levels tend to be low. However, the School’s adopted approach to Literacy is the Ann Morrice Cycle and there have been significant gains in benchmark results in recent years.
