Pre-School

Yipirinya Pre-School is a purpose designed building consisting of two large classrooms and adjacent bathroom, kitchen, office and recreation rooms. There is also a secure outdoor play area including a sandpit and shaded playground.

The Pre-School caters for 4 and 5 year old children. While it functions separately from the primary school it is recognised as part of the primary school and as a preparation for it, and pre-school children will participate in appropriate primary activities (eg assemblies) or make use of primary facilities (eg dining room) as required.

The Pre-School is controlled by the School and is staffed by a trained teacher (who may or may not be Indigenous) and an Indigenous Assistant. General school support staff, including the Special Needs Teacher, are also available to assist in Pre-School, and all Pre-School children have a daily language and culture lesson in the School’s Language and Culture Centre. Pre-School learning programmes include early literacy and numeracy as well as educational and social play activities and gross motor skill development. There are usually 25 -30 children enrolled in Pre-School.
